Assistantship Type:

Engagement Assistant

 Department:  Graduate Studies/ The Project for New Mexico Graduates of Color (PNMGC)

Pay Rate:  Paid at the current minimum rate per the collective bargaining

agreement.

Tuition Award: Up to 9 credit hours each fall and spring term (beginning Fall

2026).

Benefit Eligibility:  Graduate students who hold an assistantship appointment of 0.25 FTE or greater for at least half of a semester (8 weeks) are eligible for 100% coverage of the health insurance premium by the University under the graduate student health care plan on a semester-by-semester basis.

Anticipated Term:  Fall 2026, Spring 2027

Appointment Percent: 50% FTE

Position Summary:

The Project for New Mexico Graduates of Color (PNMGC) is a student program that is working to build community among historically underrepresented students at the University of New Mexico. PNMGC was founded during the 2002-03 academic year by a group of UNM graduate students of color who recognized the need for an organization to provide educational, cultural, and leadership support. Our programming includes graduate and undergraduate outreach initiatives, peer mentoring, leadership workshops and retreats, weekly social gatherings, academic research presentation opportunities, and our annual Faculty of Color Awards. PNMGC is seeking a responsible, proactive individual to join its team as a Digital Media, Communications & Student Engagement Assistant, with availability to work mornings and on-site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Responsible for regular updates on social media and website.
  • Post updated scholarship information, sharing links to active forms and resources, and helping to develop website content based on drafts or ideas provided.
  • Be responsible for creating brochures, flyers, and other graphic materials.
  •  Support online and in-person events through tasks such as preparing materials, assisting with event logistics, engaging with participants, and providing follow-up communication to ensure successful and well-organized programming.
  • Assist with identifying peer mentors, monitoring and tracking activities, and coordinating workshops.
  • Liaison with Graduate Studies.
  • Collaborate with the team on a semesterly basis to process scholarships.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Punctual, responsible, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with the Cascade system and website updating will be highly valued.
  • Previous experience in creating social media content using the Adobe ecosystem and Canva, as well as experience managing social media platforms.
  • Previous experience in PNMGC preferred.

To be employed as a graduate assistant; the selected candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Formally admitted to a graduate program at the University of New Mexico.
  • A graduate student in good standing, as determined in the sole discretion of UNM administration.
  • Be a currently enrolled full-time Graduate student (enrolled for 9 credit hours or 6 credit hours plus an assistantship) at the University of New Mexico.
  • A 3.0 grade point average in graduate coursework each semester.
  • Within the time limit, as specified in the UNM Graduate Catalog, for completion of the degree sought.

Must be available to work in person in SUB Office 1046, Monday through Friday, for 20 hours per week.

  • Follow up on the planning and execution of PNMGC-organized events.

  • Ensure that venues, materials, and necessary resources are properly prepared before, during, and after each event.

  • Coordinate with the relevant teams to ensure smooth execution of activities.

  • Address minor issues that may arise during events.

  • Prepare assessment and evaluation reports on an semester basis.

  • Represent PNMGC at campus meetings, workshops, and collaborative events in a professional capacity.

  • Assist with identifying peer mentors, monitoring and tracking activities, and coordinating workshops.

  • Liaison with Graduate Studies.

  • Collaborate with  the team on a semesterly basis to process scholarships.
